The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of Continental Bakeries B.V. of the Netherlands by the Goldman Sachs Group, of the United States. Goldman Sachs is a global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. Continental Bakeries is a European bakery group that manufactures and sells biscuits, sweets, bread replacements and toast. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns given that none of Goldman Sachs’ portfolio companies are active in the same markets as Continental Bakeries. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
