45 Industry Associations Sign a Joint Statement to boost Europe's AI Competitiveness

DIGITALEUROPE, together with 44 European and national industry associations, has published the first joint industry statement on the AI simplification package.

The joint movement brings together associations representing companies across sectors affected by the AI Act, including manufacturing, healthcare, energy and digital technologies.

While discussions on the AI Omnibus are moving quickly, they must also address structural challenges that companies face when implementing the AI Act. Without targeted improvements, businesses risk facing overlapping regulation, duplicative compliance requirements and unnecessary regulatory burdens.

The joint letter highlights several key priorities, including:

  • Ensuring a coherent regulatory approach for products already covered by sectoral legislation
  • Better aligning the timelines of the AI Omnibus and the Digital Omnibus
  • Introducing a targeted proposal to postpone AI Act application deadlines while enabling meaningful simplification reforms

These concerns are supported by real-life use cases from industry, highlighting how current misalignments between the AI Act and existing sectoral legislation could affect companies in practice.
